VEGAS MYTH BUSTED: Legal Cannabis Not Available on Las Vegas Strip, Despite Fake Shops
Cannabis sales are strictly regulated on the Las Vegas Strip, with several important facts tourists need to know:
Licensed cannabis dispensaries cannot operate directly on the Las Vegas Strip or Fremont Street Experience, or within 1,500 feet of any unrestricted gaming license. Most legitimate dispensaries are located about a half-mile away from tourist areas.

Several stores on the Strip sell hemp products while misleadingly presenting themselves as cannabis dispensaries. While hemp and cannabis come from the same plant, hemp contains less than 0.03% THC and won't produce psychoactive effects.

How to identify fake dispensaries:
- Located directly on the Strip or Fremont Street
- Sales counter visible from street (real dispensaries require ID scanning in a vestibule)
- Accept credit cards (legitimate dispensaries only take cash or debit)
- No ID scanning requirements
- Products don't list THC content

While the City of Las Vegas now requires fake dispensaries to post signs stating they're not licensed to sell cannabis, this law only applies to Fremont Street. The Strip, located in Clark County, currently has no such requirement.
For safety and legitimacy, always verify dispensaries through the Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board's website before making purchases. Unlicensed products may contain harmful substances since they're not laboratory tested.
