Casino resorts in Las Vegas are reportedly installing sophisticated vape detectors in hotel rooms to crack down on unauthorized vaping, leading to substantial fines for violators.

A Reddit user recently reported receiving a $400 charge at a Golden Entertainment-operated casino resort after being caught vaping in their room. The detectors not only identified the vapor but also recorded precise timestamps of the incidents.

The most widely used device is the Halo Smart Sensor by IPVideo, which continuously monitors air quality for traces of tobacco and THC. These advanced sensors can detect particulates from various sources, including vape devices, cigarettes, hairspray, and even candles.

Key features of modern vape detectors include:

  • Specific detection of tobacco and cannabis vape signatures
  • Precise timestamp recording of violations
  • Audio monitoring capabilities for security purposes
  • Integration with hotel security systems

According to security company Avigiolon, hotels are implementing these systems not only for policy enforcement but also as a revenue stream through violation fines. The technology has become widespread, with even budget hotels adopting similar monitoring systems.

Golden Entertainment, when contacted about the specific $400 fine incident, stated that the amount "doesn't align with Arizona Charlie's or The STRAT" policies, though they didn't deny the presence of vape detection systems.

As this technology becomes more prevalent in the hospitality industry, guests should expect increased monitoring of in-room activities, particularly regarding smoking and vaping violations.
