Actor and poker enthusiast James Woods helped save his 94-year-old neighbor with dementia during devastating Los Angeles wildfires that destroyed his Pacific Palisades home.

Woods, who had just evacuated, contacted the elderly neighbor's son in Massachusetts and learned the man had recently returned home with a new caregiver. Concerned about his neighbor's safety, Woods called 911 and reached out to another neighbor who was still in the area.

Following Woods' specific directions to check behind the pantry where the elderly man usually sat, the neighbor located him alone in the house after the caregiver had been evacuated by firefighters. The rescue came just an hour before the house burned down.

In an emotional CNN interview with Pamela Brown, Woods recounted losing his own recently renovated home, which he and his wife had moved into just three months prior. Despite his personal loss, Woods emphasized the importance of following evacuation orders and praised the dedication of emergency responders.

Woods, known for his role in "Casino" and as a regular participant in Las Vegas and Los Angeles poker tournaments, received support from family members, including his eight-year-old niece who offered her piggy bank to help them rebuild.

The actor's quick thinking and persistence likely saved his elderly neighbor's life, as the man was safely transported to a local hospital for treatment.
