BetMGM is taking control of MGM Resorts International's racebook and sportsbook operations at their land-based casinos across the United States. This transition marks a significant shift in operational management for the gaming company.

As a 50/50 joint venture between MGM Resorts and Entain Plc, BetMGM will become a "key employee" of MGM's sportsbooks, handling critical functions including:

  • Trading operations
  • Customer service
  • Risk and fraud management
  • Marketing initiatives
  • Payment processing

While BetMGM assumes day-to-day operations, MGM Resorts maintains oversight and policy direction. Each casino will have an MGM executive responsible for handling significant issues that may arise.

This move follows several strategic initiatives by BetMGM in 2024, dubbed their "year of investment," including:

  • Hiring Casey Hurbis as chief marketing officer
  • Streamlining digital rewards into a single wallet system
  • Implementing cross-state transferrable digital wallets

The transition appears natural, as many MGM retail sportsbooks already feature BetMGM branding. This development strengthens the existing partnership between MGM Resorts and BetMGM, though speculation continues about potential changes in ownership structure between MGM and Entain Plc.

BetMGM will enforce house rules established by individual gaming properties while maintaining the operational standards expected at MGM venues. This consolidation streamlines operations and potentially enhances the customer experience across MGM's gaming properties.
