Recent changes at Resorts World Las Vegas, including a new board of directors, signal potential improvements in both corporate structure and credit outlook for parent company Genting Bhd.

Jim Murren, former MGM Resorts International CEO, joins as chairman alongside Alex Dixon as CEO, effective January 16. According to CBRE analysts Colin Mansfield and Connor Parks, these appointments could lead to significant organizational improvements.

The analysts suggest Murren's leadership could streamline Genting Bhd's U.S. operations by potentially unifying multiple restricted groups under a single capital structure. This consolidation would better integrate the company's Las Vegas and New York assets.

Both executives bring valuable industry experience, with Murren's previous role at MGM and Dixon's background at Caesars Entertainment and MGM. Their expertise could prove crucial in gaining Las Vegas market share and addressing regulatory challenges.

The appointments are considered "credit positive" for Resorts World Las Vegas. Murren's regulatory experience, including his role as chairman of the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (UAE), could particularly help navigate ongoing anti-money laundering compliance issues with the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Genting Bhd, based in Malaysia, operates casino properties across Malaysia, Singapore, and the US. While these currently function as separate units, the new leadership structure suggests a potential move toward more integrated operations, possibly including a future New York stock listing for U.S. assets.

The company faces regulatory scrutiny following allegations that a former executive permitted illegal bookmakers to launder money at the property. However, analysts believe Murren's regulatory expertise and industry reputation position him well to address these challenges and guide the company forward.
