New Jersey Makes Casino Self-Exclusion Process Easier With 24/7 Online Portal
New Jersey has expanded its Atlantic City casino self-exclusion program, making it easier for problem gamblers to voluntarily restrict their access to gambling facilities. The Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) now offers a 24/7 online registration portal, eliminating the need for in-person visits or video consultations.
Previously, individuals had to either visit a brick-and-mortar casino or schedule a video call with a DGE representative to register for self-exclusion. The program, established in 2001 for physical casinos and expanded in 2013 for online gambling, now features a user-friendly online platform that improves confidentiality and accessibility.

The new system allows users to self-exclude from:
- Physical casinos only
- Online gambling only
- Both physical and online gambling
While traditional registration methods remain available, the online option provides a more private and convenient alternative for those seeking help with problem gambling.
Gambling addiction specialists consider self-exclusion one of the most effective tools for managing problem gambling, especially since there are no FDA-approved medications for gambling disorders. The program can be enacted for:
- One year
- Five years
- Lifetime
This expansion aligns with responsible gaming requirements in U.S. legal gaming markets, which include tools for:
- Playing time limits
- Risk limits
- Loss limits
- Deposit frequency restrictions
