Broderick Scott, 48, an inmate at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center, was charged following an 18-month investigation that uncovered illegal gambling operations spanning multiple state prisons. Scott allegedly used smuggled contraband to manage the operation, which involved over 30,000 transactions.

The investigation, which began in 2023, led to Scott's transfer to Iberville Parish Jail. He faces charges of gambling and unlawful establishment of accounts on social networking websites by inmates.

LSP warned that using third-party payment apps like Cash App to send money to inmates is illegal. The only legitimate methods for sending funds to inmates are through JPay or other officially approved channels listed on the Louisiana Department of Corrections website.

While inmates often claim these funds are for commissary purchases, LSP states they're frequently used for illegal activities, including drug purchases and contraband smuggling.

The LSP emphasized their commitment to maintaining prison security and investigating illegal activities within correctional facilities, promising to hold offenders accountable for their actions.
